All persons trail: 0.3 mi. out and back. A flat, crushed stone pathway to Castner Brook, 6-7′ wide, that is shaded by woods. Rated accessible by Forest Service standards and suited for varied footwear and wheelchairs. Van accessible parking is available at the trail head. There are no facilities at Castner Brook.
Mountain bike trail: 1 mi. loop. An intermediate, singletrack trail with a dirt surface. The trail winds through the forest and includes a few short rocky sections. Watch for roots and loose rocks.
These are shared multi-use trails, please be mindful of other users. An accessible bridge and a seating area will be constructed at the brook crossing in 2026.
The all persons trail is a shaded out-and-back trail, curving gently through the woods, that will delight your senses (especially once the nearby construction is complete). Enjoy the dappled sunlight on the trail, the sound of the wind in the trees and the babbling brook, and the warm, spicy scent of pine and balsam.
A highlight of the all persons trail is the trees: a lovely mix of white pine, oak, hemlock, spruce, balsam fir, and more, in all different sizes and shapes. Listen for nuthatches and chickadees as you walk. Deer frequent the brook corridor as here as well; you may see hoof prints on the trail. The all persons trail ends at Castner Brook, which can vary dramatically in depth and speed depending on the season and recent rainfall.
From Business Route 1, turn onto School Street heading south. After 0.4 miles, turn left on Piper Mill Road, across from High Street. The trail head is located 0.3 miles down on the left, just before the gate to the Great Salt Bay Sanitary District.
