An outdoor enthusiast and avid user of Coastal Rivers’ local trails, Michele was inspired to volunteer by her friends and family who have been active stewards of Coastal Rivers properties for many decades.
A New England native and a veterinarian, Michele’s diverse background in animal health and disease ecology informs a unique perspective on issues faced by today’s land trust community. She has worked with a wide variety of species, from beef cattle and grizzly bears in Montana and Wyoming to cougar in western Canada to lobsters, salmon, shellfish, goats, horses and pets in mixed animal and aquatic animal practice throughout Maine. She was the Maine State Veterinarian and State Public Health Veterinarian from 2012 – 2022, an Aquaculture Veterinary Medical Officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and now consults with veterinary groups in our region on strategies to meet the need for affordable veterinary care. When she’s not working, you’ll find Michele outside, by or in the sea, or on a trail in Maine.
Throughout her career, Michele’s found that success hinges on understanding complex issues, listening well to diverse viewpoints, and building consensus among constituents. She welcomes the opportunity to put some of those same skills to work on the Coastal Rivers Board, to benefit our thriving Midcoast area.
