Trails: Dog-friendly

Description

All but a few Coastal Rivers preserves are “dog-friendly,” though some are more so than others! If you have a friendly dog and would like to encounter other people with dogs, we recommend Dodge Point, Round Top Farm, or Salt Bay Farm. If you and/or your dog prefer a less social hiking experience, we suggest a preserve less traveled such as Bearce Allen and NORGAL Preserves, Baker Forest, Walpole Woods, Pemaquid Pond Preserve, Marsh River Bog, or Doyle Preserve.

Leash or no leash?

If your dog is under reliable voice control, Dodge Point (owned by the State of Maine) permits dogs to be off-leash. Dogs are also permitted to be off-leash on the Oyster Creek Trail, adjacent to Salt Bay Farm. On all other Coastal Rivers Preserves, dogs must be on a leash at all times for the comfort and safety of other visitors as well as wildlife.
