Talking Trash Community Forum
Following Up
Mark Ward and Michael Uhl of “Talking Trash” organized a presentation and community forum on August 22 on the sticky topic of recycling and trash disposal in Lincoln County.
As promised the evening of the event, Michael and Mark have shared some materials and resources that were discussed during the forum.
Resources to download
- The PowerPoint presentation
- Lincoln County Recycling’s recently updated brochure with the list of the materials that they accept. The information is also available on their website.
Video recording of the Forum
Lincoln County Television taped the forum and has posted an edited version of part of the event:

Other ways to take action
- Contact the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). One of the topics that we covered was the development of legislation for the upcoming session by the Maine DEP about Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging. The formal name of that initiative is a “Resolve to Support Maine Recycling Programs (2019 Resolve Chapter 42).” Stakeholder input on that topic is being headed up by Elena Bertocci, who was present at the forum. She welcomes your feedback on the subject. Her email address is elena.bertocci@maine.gov
- Follow the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM). As we mentioned at the forum, some folks, like NRCM, are referring to the packaging proposal as Recycling Reform. They have information about the concept and ways to take action on their website.
As a way of keeping the conversation going, Mark and Michael intend to continue to submit regular letters to the Lincoln County News on the subject of Recycling and Trash in Lincoln County. They invite you to share any information that you have with them or write your own letter to the editor of Lincoln County News.
