Elmer Tarr Bristol Roadside Cleanup

April 27

Free
bags of trash on the side of the road

An annual tradition

For over 40 years, the Bristol Lions Club coordinated this annual event. They named it after Elmer Tarr, who walked the Pemaquid Point Road for many years picking up trash, rain or shine. Since 2017, the group TarrNation – also named after Elmer Tarr – has managed the clean-up.

Bristol residents of all ages are invited to join TarrNation for a roadside cleanup on Saturday, April 27!

Register at Bristol Consolidated School or Granite Hall Store between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. (this helps ensure the widest coverage and avoid duplication.) TarrNation will provide trash bags and safety vests – as well as buckets and grabbers to those cleaning up areas with embankments.

Be safe! Please wear bright clothing and gloves, and bring a water bottle.

If you would like to clean up a section of road prior to cleanup day, please call 207-290-3077 any time after April 10 and let us know where you’ll be working, or we can help you select a section of road.

  • Free trash bags wil be available at the town office beginning April 18
  • Call the town office at 207-563-5270 during the week of April 22-26 with the locaiton of filled bags so they can be picked up.
  • Crews will begin picking up filled bags around noon on April 27.
