Remembering Elmer Tarr
If this were a normal spring, you would be hearing from members of the Elmer Tarr Bristol Roadside Cleanup (aka TarrNation) about how to join in and support the 2020 Elmer Tarr Bristol Roadside Cleanup. This event is Bristol’s annual recognition of the late Elmer Tarr, who walked from his house to Pemaquid Point nearly every day for many years and picked up the trash.
With life anything but normal these days, the Committee, being fully aware of the concerns of citizens and government requests to use common sense for the health of all, has postponed the official cleanup until this fall.
Instead, TarrNation encourages Bristol residents and friends to clean up the roadside along their own property while maintaining physical distance from others. It’s a good excuse to be outdoors, get some exercise, and use the time during this health emergency in a helpful way for your community and neighborhood.
The committee suggests cleaning up on Earth Day April 22, or any day during Earth week, or any other day in any other week that works for you.
We would love to hear from you about your efforts. Let us know what section you cleaned and send photos, if you have them, to info@coastalrivers.org or post on Instagram at #coastalriverstrust.
The committee plans to reschedule the official Bristol roadside cleanup in the fall, before the snow flies and covers up the trash that has accumulated over the summer. Your friends at TarrNation look forward to better times and seeing everyone then. In the meantime, take care and wash your hands.
