Guided Hike on the River~Link Trail
September 17, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeIn celebration of Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, DRA invites you to join us for a guided hike on the River~Link Trail with naturalist Sarah Gladu. While free to the public, reservations are required by September 16 due so we can manage parking logistics.
What to expect: The hike is of moderate difficulty and is approximately five miles in length. Much of the trail is along old farm roads, while other portions are narrower walking trails. The trail may be muddy in places so we recommend appropriate footgear, as well as water and a lunch.
About River~Link: River~Link is a collaborative land conservation initiative among state, municipal and non-profit partners to create a trail and wildlife corridor connecting the Damariscotta and Marsh Rivers and running down the spine of the Boothbay Peninsula. The goal is to create a permanently protected and publicly accessible block of contiguous land totaling several thousand acres and thus able to support clean water, recreation and wildlife at a viable scale. With the option to purchase the Louderback parcel, that objective is now in sight!
Registration: Participants must register by September 16 with the DRA. There is no fee for this hike. The group will meet at Dodge Point, River Road, Newcastle at 9:00 a.m. to leave some of the vehicles, and then carpool to the start of the hike on McKay Road. While dogs under reliable voice command are usually welcome on the River~Link trail, we ask that you leave your four-legged friends at home for this guided hike.
