SUMMARY:Harvesting the Sounds of Nature
DESCRIPTION:A Maine listening adventure with naturalist Sarah Gladu and cellist Wilhelmina Smith\nJoin Coastal Rivers’ naturalist Sarah Gladu and Salt Bay Chamberfest’s Founder\, Executive Director\, and cellist Wilhelmina Smith for an inaugural journey into the woods to explore the connection between natural sounds and music at Keyes Woods Preserve in Bristol. \nThe event begins with a brief introduction followed by a guided walk along a smooth gravel trail. As you explore\, Wilhelmina Smith will perform solo cello music evoking nature through improvisatory call-and-response with the ambient sounds of the forest. Sarah Gladu will offer insights into the land and its singing inhabitants\, sparking an engaging conversation that will open your eyes\, ears\, and heart to the world around us through music. \nThe 1/3-mile loop trail is mostly-shaded\, gently graded\, 4 feet wide and finished with crushed rock. A lookout over a forested\, bubbling brook at the halfway point is the perfect setting to pause\, enjoy the woods\, and listen to music. \nCarpooling is encouraged when possible\, as parking is limited at Keyes Woods. \nAcclaimed cellist Wilhelmina Smith is the Founder and Artistic Director of Salt Bay Chamberfest. Praised by The Strad as “a consummate communicator of the new virtuosity\,” she made her solo debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra and has performed as a soloist and guest artist with major orchestras and chamber music societies worldwide.
