Partner Event: Photo-based storytelling workshop
October 24, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
FreeAn introduction to photo-based storytelling and the Maine Coast Photovoice Project
Learn about photo-based storytelling and a new project documenting development and change along the Damariscotta River estuary through photographs.
This partner event is presented by Kevin Duffy, a teacher of Visual Communication at the University of Maine. The first in a series, the workshop will introduce the , a collaborative, community-based research effort Kevin started last year to document the opportunities and challenges facing communities along coastal estuaries in Maine.
In Kevin’s words, the goal of the project is “to collaborate with a small team of residents, record their local experiences, and explore the diversity of perceptions surrounding the future resilience of their estuaries.”
Following an introduction to the project, Kevin will facilitate an open discussion about how personal stories and photos can be used to document important environmental issues and initiate action planning.
This workshop is for any area resident interested in joining the research effort or learning more about using photos to organize local visions for advocacy or political action.
