Invasive Plant Identification and Work Session
June 29, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Free
Join area residents at the Rutherford Island Preserve for an overview of the threats posed by invasive terrestrial and wetland plants. Invasive plant specialists from the Dept. of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry – Maine Natural Areas Program will be on-hand to present the plants and answer your questions. See examples of important invaders, learn how to use the Invasive Plant Mapping app (IMAP), tour infestations on-site, and join a work party to pull out invading shrubs and vines.
This is an outstanding opportunity to learn how to identify and manage invasive plant species from some of the most knowledgeable experts on the topic.
Dress to protect yourself from insects, ticks, and thorny plants. Please bring thick work gloves, loppers or hand pruners, and water. Bring a smartphone if you have one and would like to learn how to use the Invasive Plant Mapping app (IMAP).
Trailhead and parking is available along West Side Road before the turn onto Atlantic Avenue (DRA sign at this turn).
