SUMMARY:Volunteer Training: Invasive Plant Patrol
DESCRIPTION:Help keep an eye out for invasive aquatic plants our lakes\, streams and ponds\nInvasive plants can cause tremendous loss of wildlife habitat\, recreational and property damage. Identifying invasive plants before they spread is a critical part of protecting water quality. That’s where our Invasive Plant Patrol (IPP) volunteers come in! \nYou do not need to have a boat or shorefront property to participate. \nThe training will be conducted by Coastal Rivers’ Community Science Director Sarah Gladu at the Denny Conservation & Education Center. Volunteers will learn how to conduct a survey (which can be done by boat or wading along the shore)\, how to complete a data sheet\, and how to identify some of the most common native and invasive aquatic plants. You’ll also get some hands-on practice with identifying plants. \nOnce you register\, you will receive a link to an introductory video to watch online in preparation for the in-person training. After the training\, “IPPers” will organize into small teams and work through early October to monitor their assigned areas throughout the Pemaquid river and its chain of ponds. \nPlease register using the form below.
