Tree-planting at Salt Bay Farm

June 6, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
newly planted sapling at Round Top Farm

When folks from the Knox-Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District reached out to Trails & Facilities Manager Jim Grenier with the offer of “a lot” of trees left over from their annual plant sale, Jim soon learned that his own idea of “a lot” was quite conservative compared to theirs. We are now the proud owners of 137 baby trees!

We are looking for volunteers to help us get these babies into the ground at Salt Bay Farm, where they will supplement and add more species to an assortment we planted last year. Tasks include digging holes, planting the trees, and mulching with wood chips to suppress weeds and hold moisture.

We’ll meet at the Salt Bay Farm parking lot and proceed to the planting area, a short walk south of the farmhouse. Coastal Rivers has plenty of tools to complete the task, but feel free to bring a favorite shovel if you wish. As with all Coastal Rivers workdays, safety is the top priority, so please bring the usual personal equipment including gloves, bug spray, and water.

If you plan to come, please email Brad to help us get a head count.
