A regular program for homeschool families and groups.
Note new start time, beginning in March: classes are held 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 the fourth Monday of each month (except May). A hike and nature journaling are always included. Prepay for five classes and get a sixth class free. For ages 5 and up (younger may come). Fee: $5.00/child. Call DRA to register.
Spring Schedule:
March 26 – Tremendous Trees: Tap a maple tree, taste sap, and learn to identify common trees.
April 23 – Migrators on the Move. Search for birds, horseshoe crabs, dragonflies, and other migratory creatures.
May 21 – Alewives Around Us. See alewives in migration and learn all about these amazing animals. Meet at the Fish Ladder building on Mills Road, Newcastle.
*NEW!* FOLLOWING WILD ENCOUNTERS – Ukulele and Nature Songwriting Class
Join singer-songwriter Heather Hardy from 11:15 am. to 12:15 p.m. for songs relating to Wild Encounters themes. Open to kids ages 9 – 12 only. No prior experience is necessary, and ukuleles are provided. Younger siblings may join DRA Staff for a nature painting or drawing activity downstairs during this time. Early registration is strongly recommended. Fee: $10.
About Heather
Winner of the 2013 Maine Songwriting Competition and 2nd place winner of the 2012 New England Songwriting Contest, Heather Hardy is a singer-songwriter living in Bristol, Maine. She plays guitar and ukulele, and has a blast playing her guitar like a stand-up bass. Heather blends her unique voice with rich melodies, often highlighting mouth trumpet instrumentals in her songs. She teaches songwriting, guitar and ukulele for all ages.
