Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pickup

Join Coastal Rivers, in partnership with the Town of Newcastle's Adopt-A-Highway program, for a trash pickup along Mills Rd! We will be picking up litter along Mills Rd from Louis Doe Home Center to the Damariscotta Mills, ending with a tour of the fish ladders. Come help us clean up the road and see some alewives as well!

Volunteer Training: Swim Beach Monitoring

As part of the Maine Healthy Beaches program, Coastal Rivers volunteers take weekly water samples at Pemaquid Beach, the Bristol Mills swimming hole, and the beach at Biscay Pond during the summer months. This service for the towns of Bristol and Damariscotta helps ensure that beaches are safe for swimming. A Healthy Beaches training for new volunteers will take place on Thursday, May 22 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Coastal Rivers’ Denny Conservation and Education Center at Round Top Farm in Damariscotta.

Guided hike at Seal Cove Shore Preserve

Join Naturalist Sarah Gladu and fellow nature enthusiasts for a gentle hike at Seal Cove Shore Preserve in South Bristol. Seal Cove offers many interesting experiences including a fern-filled ravine that feels primeval, rocky outcroppings, coastal spruce forests, and sweeping views of the Damariscotta estuary. Along the way, we'll notice how the estuary influences the forest and vice versa.

Wilderness First Aid Certification Course

Taught by Wilderness Medical Associates International. Wilderness First Aid is the ideal course for outdoor enthusiasts on overnight or short term wilderness adventures. Students will be able to recognize medical emergencies, and will become familiar with basic life saving skills, patient assessment, and basic field care for common injuries. Course topics include: patient assessment and emergency care, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental medicine, management of wounds, non-technical lifting, moving, and extrication of patients, etc.
