Volunteer Opportunity: Four Winds Nature Program at GSB School

Share your joy for learning and exploring the outdoors with young students at Great Salt Bay School.

What we’re doing

Coastal Rivers is supporting Great Salt Bay (GSB) Community School in their efforts to bring more outdoor education to all classrooms. One way GSB is doing this is by working with Four Winds, a Vermont–based organization that provides natural science education curriculum and volunteer training.

We are looking for 5 volunteers to help bring the Four Winds Nature Program to k-2 students at Great Salt Bay School.

What it looks like

Adult volunteers will meet for two hours a month over 5 months at Great Salt Bay school for a training with Four Winds staff. In September, November, January, March, and April, you will be introduced to fascinating natural science topics and go over age-appropriate activities related to the topics. The next month you will bring the lessons to the classrooms and share the activities with students, which includes taking them outside for a close-up look at the month’s topic.

Your commitment

Volunteers are asked to commit to attending each of the trainings. Each volunteer or pair of volunteers will be assigned a class to work with and will work with that class throughout the school year. You are welcome to request an age preference. You may also work with more than one teacher or class.

Volunteers will be trained to provide all the information and lead the activities, while the teacher will provide class management support.
