We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Kyle Amergian to the Coastal Rivers family as our new Education Director!
If you or someone you know has spent time at Camp Mummichog or participated in our school nature programs, you know just how special these experiences are. Kyle is stepping in to lead these beloved programs, bringing a passion for connecting people of all ages with nature.
“We’re very excited to welcome Kyle to the team,” says Executive Director Steven Hufnagel. “Out of an outstanding pool of applicants from around the country, Kyle stood out not only for her skills and training, but also for her warm and collaborative approach, as well as her experience working at the interface of land and sea based on close relationships with teachers, fellow educators, and partner organizations. Our education programs for all ages builds connection with the spectacular natural areas and water bodies that surround us, and we’re certain that Kyle will strengthen those links in a way that leads to even greater caring for the Damariscotta-Pemaquid region today and in the future.”
Kyle brings nearly a decade of outdoor, hands-on experiential education and marine science expertise to her new role. For the past five years, she managed education programming right nearby on Hurricane Island, and she’s also led summer science programs in both Maine and Florida.
Originally from South Berwick, Maine, Kyle holds a B.S. in Marine Science from Eckerd College and an M.S. in Marine Science with a concentration in Biological Oceanography from the University of South Florida (USF). After completing her graduate studies, she returned to her Maine roots to continue her career in experiential education.
Kyle is stepping into this role as our longtime education lead, Sarah Gladu, shifts her focus within the organization. Sarah, who spent years expertly building and nurturing our nature education programs, isn’t going far! She will be staying on with Coastal Rivers to expand our growing community science initiatives.
Please join us in giving Kyle a warm welcome when you see her out on the trails or Camp Mummichog this summer!
