Perfect for walkers, strollers, wheelchairs… and eventually mountain bikes!
This fall, we completed construction of a 950-foot ADA-accessible trail that starts at Piper Mill Road and winds through the beautiful, shaded woods right near downtown Damariscotta. The trail is sturdy, smooth, and inviting – and perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful stroll, whether you’re walking, pushing a stroller, or in a wheelchair.
We are very grateful for support from the Athletic Brewing Company and their Two for the Trails grant program, which provides up to $2 million each year as part of the company’s commitment to protect, preserve, and maintain local trails.
In addition, thanks to a generous family gift in 2024 that made it possible to purchase three key pieces of trail-building equipment, we can do more of this work ourselves — building durable, accessible trails with very little disturbance to the trees and soil surface.

Looking ahead, we’ve applied for Maine Trails Program funding to construct a bridge over Castner Brook, which will connect to a one-mile mountain bike loop on the other side. Local trail advocates, including the Six Rivers chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA), have supported ongoing trail maintenance and expansion.
“This project was identified as a priority in response to strong community interest,” says Deputy Director Katie Beaver. “Residents have consistently expressed a desire for local mountain bike trails. We’re thrilled to provide close-to-downtown, year-round recreation options for everyone in the community.”

We invite walkers, stroller-pushers, and wheelchair users to come out and enjoy the 950-foot trail this fall. Mountain bikers, stay tuned — the bridge is coming soon, maybe as early as next spring!
Want to help out? Our last Trail Tamers work day of the season is taking place at Castner Brook from 9 to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 16. We’ll be partnering with the Six Rivers chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) to work on the mountain biking loop. > Learn more here.
