Housing

Coastal Rivers holds thousands of acres of land in conservation, ensuring these areas remain wild, undeveloped, and accessible for wildlife and recreation. At the same time, our region is increasingly unaffordable for many who live here and those who want to move here. As of November 2024, the median sale price for a home in Lincoln County had risen by 127% over the past four years, reaching $510,000 – making our area unaffordable to 90% of the population.

With the current housing trends and the pressing need for affordable housing for the region’s workforce, downsizing seniors, and growing families, Coastal Rivers is committed to being part of the solution. This leads us to explore the question, how can we continue conserving vital land while also addressing the housing shortage in our service area?

We’re diving into this question and working collaboratively with local towns and community leaders to ensure that Coastal Rivers is conserving lands that enhance the livability and health of our community—without sacrificing the opportunity to create much-needed housing. Our goal is to balance conservation with thoughtful development, ensuring that our future supports both the natural environment and the people who call this area home.

Stay tuned here for updates on our work to support affordable housing in our communities in the coming months.
