Is the rink open?
There are a few ways to find out!
- Check our Facebook page. If in doubt, message us for a definite answer.
- Do a drive-by. The sign at Round Top will be posted “OPEN” or “CLOSED.”
- During regular business hours, call us at 563-1393.
Please be sure to keep off the ice when the rink is closed, to keep the rink liner from getting a blow-out (it’s expensive to replace).
A gift to the community
Coastal Rivers’ ice rink at Round Top Farm depends on Mother Nature for ice and numerous volunteers for ice maintenance. Completed in Fall 2011, the rink provides plenty of space for free skating and pick-up hockey games. Round Top’s old ice cream shack now serves as a warming hut on weekend afternoons. The rink is available free of charge, thanks to numerous contributions of time, funds, materials and expertise from Coastal Rivers members, volunteers and local businesses (see below for a full list of who to thank!)
Rules of the Rink
Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Daily
Free of charge. Open to all. Welcome!
Rink “OPEN” or “CLOSED” will be posted on the Round Top Farm sign along Business Rt. 1, as well as on DRA’s Facebook page. When CLOSED sign is posted, please keep off the ice to avoid damage to the rink liner.
For Your Safety
- Use rink and property at your own risk. Coastal Rivers does NOT represent the skating rink as ‘safe.’
- Pickup Hockey allowed only at the following times:
- Weekends – 7 a.m. to Noon
- Weekdays – Noon to 1:30 p.m.
- Under 18 must wear helmets
- No slapshots, body contact or lifting of puck
Shovels are available for cleaning ice, esp. after skating (thanks!)
Warming Shack open 1 to 4 p.m. weekends (depending on volunteer availability), hot chocolate available
Meet Matt Filler!
As the Ice Rink Committee Chairman, Matt’s the one who organizes crews every year to set up the rink framework and lay down the lining in the fall, and take it up and stow it all in the spring. He arranges for the fire department to fill the rink. He also personally visits the rink almost every day in the winter to check ice conditions and decide whether they’re OK for skating. He has also, along with other dedicated volunteers, spent countless hours on the rink behind a snow shovel. Thank you, Matt!
