Trail Tamers At It Again

Thirteen dedicated volunteers braved the blistering heat on a July afternoon to clear trails and repair trail structures at the Walpole Woods Preserve in Bristol. This group of “Trail Tamers” has been volunteering their skills, time and sweat on stewardship-related projects for over a decade. We have the Trail Tamers to thank for many of the trails, kiosks, signs, boardwalks and bridges that we all get to enjoy here along the Damariscotta River.
Following their recent effort, Walpole Woods is now in excellent condition. We invite you to explore this quiet preserve where the trails traverse an interesting mixture of wetland and upland habitat. If you do get a chance to visit, you will be treated to a fresh water stream, small pond, large glacial erratics and well-groomed trails.
Want to be part of the Trail Tamers team? Let us know and we’ll gladly get you on board. Each volunteer offers a different skill set and we welcome all. Stay tuned for a September Trail Tamers excursion to Witch Island. We will be posting that date soon.
