One of our easier trails, this one is mostly flat and fairly short. The one area that may present challenges is the short Red Trail at the northwest end of the trail as you near the shore. There are rocks and roots to step over here and the footing can be uneven.
Pemaquid Pond Preserve consists of a 29-acre preserve as well as a 1.9-acre island toward the southern end of Pemaquid Pond in Bremen. The preserve was donated to PWA in 2015 by the Stock-Moody who wanted to allow public enjoyment of this land on the shores of Pemaquid Pond while maintaining its natural state.
In 2023, Coastal Rivers completed the purchase of the property next to Pemaquid Pond Preserve, adding 167 acres to the conserved area. Look for an extension of the trail system in summer of 2025!
Note: Water access from the pond is at the end of the spur trail and at the island. Please avoid both areas during loon nesting season (mid-May to mid-July).
The Pemaquid Pond shoreline boasts broad vistas, rocky outcrops, sandy beaches and wooded shores. Along the shoreline, notice the healthy buffer of native vegetation that prevents erosion and protects the health of the pond.
From Business Rt. 1 in Damariscotta, turn onto Biscay Road at the traffic light (by McDonalds). Travel 3 miles and just after Biscay Pond, turn left on to Turner Road. Follow Turner Road, crossing the causeway between Pemaquid Pond & McCurdy Pond, and continue about 0.6 miles. Look for the preserve sign on the left and the small parking lot entrance.
