Seal Cove Shore Preserve

Elevation Gain:

85ft

Length:

~1.2 mile loop

Preserve Features:

This magical trail follows a ridge before dropping down to cross primeval wetland to the start of a one-mile loop skirting the west side of Seal Cove.
The trail at Seal Cove Shore is typical of coastal spruce forest, narrow and with some roots, rocks, and bog bridges underfoot to navigate. There are moderate changes in elevation throughout the preserve, with steeper areas on either side of the bog wetland. Benches at the shore offer a chance to rest and enjoy the view.
Seal Cove Shore Preserve lies on the western side of the cove for which it is named. A wooded property, it contains fresh and saltwater wetlands, towering white pines, and 3,000 feet of water frontage.

A spur trail leads along a ridge then crosses primeval wetland to the start of a one mile loop. We recommend walking the loop counterclockwise for the best views.
Seal Cove provides wading bird and waterfowl habitat and supports extensive and economically significant clam flats. The shoreline is marked by a minor cove or “bight” frequented by wading birds and small fish, including at least two species of sticklebacks (native minnows).
Located at 211 S Road in South Bristol off of Route 129, about 11 miles south of Damariscotta and 1.5 miles north of The Gut. Follow the S Road around the base of Seal Cove then stay right and turn north. The preserve trailhead will be on your right.
