Join Coastal River’s Invasive Plant Patrol as part of a first-alert system to identify invasive aquatic plants in our lakes, streams and ponds!

Volunteer training: Horseshoe crab monitoring
Anyone interested in horseshoe crabs, the health of the Damariscotta River Estuary, or citizen science is invited to take part in an study of horseshoe crab populations in the estuary. The count has been ongoing for nearly 15 years, enabling us to document population changes over time. Click the program title to learn more and register.

Sowing Native Seeds
Growing native plants in your yard or garden benefits pollinators and other insects as well as the birds that depend on insects to feed their young each spring.
Many native plant seeds need a cold period outdoors before they will germinate, so now is a great time to plant them. We will provide everything you need: pots, soil, seeds (for either sunny or shady locations), and a bit of hardware cloth to protect your seeds once you bring them home.

Wild Encounters Homeschool Program – February 2020
Experience a Winter Wonderland! Go dogsledding and build winter shelters.
A regular program for homeschool families and groups. We start each class with an introduction to the topic, followed by a hike and nature journaling.
Wild Encounters classes are held 10:00 PM - 12:00 PM the fourth Monday of each month (except December). For ages 5 and up, though younger kids may come along. Fee: $5.00 per child age 5 and up, or prepay for 5 classes and get a 6th class free.

Join us for four days of Winter Wonderland! Go dogsledding, build a quinzhee (winter shelter), go sledding and snowshoeing, and track animals. February 18-21, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. For children ages 6-11.
Participants will need to bring snacks, lunch, and warm outdoor gear.
